Kicking Off the Homeschool Year: Chaos, Coffee, and Conquering Registration

It’s January, and that means one thing: homeschool is officially in session. The pencils are sharpened (for now), the books are neatly stacked (also, for now), and the kids are pretending they’re ready to learn. Meanwhile, I’m over here trying to remember where I put the planner… or my sanity.
Starting the homeschool year feels like stepping into a whirlwind where I’m not just a mom—I’m the teacher, principal, lunch lady, admin clerk, janitor, and occasional referee. It’s a lot. But let’s face it, we wouldn’t have it any other way (well, maybe just the janitor part).
All the Roles, All the Hats
Homeschooling means wearing ALL the hats. One moment, you’re explaining long division with all the patience you can muster, and the next, you’re Googling how to extract glitter from the carpet after a “science experiment” went rogue.
Then there’s the part where you have to convince your toddler that colouring outside the lines is not abstract art (well, not for this assignment, at least). Let’s not forget the high schooler asking, “Why do I have to learn this?”—a question I still don’t have a satisfying answer to.
But despite the chaos, there’s something magical about seeing your children learn, grow, and take ownership of their education. Even if it means a few extra coffee refills and the occasional whispered “you’ve got this” to yourself.
Registration: The Elephant in the Room
Now, let’s talk about the Department of Education. Ah yes, the paperwork—the pièce de résistance of homeschooling stress. If you’re anything like me, the thought of motivation letters, education plans, and time allocation breakdowns makes you want to hide under the bed.
Here’s the thing: it doesn’t have to be stressful. Registration is just a formality (albeit one with way too many forms). That’s where I step in. At Livi, we take that load off your plate. Need a motivation letter? Done. An education plan? Sorted. A how-to guide for registration? Already in your inbox.
We can’t make the forms disappear, but we can make the process a whole lot easier—so you can focus on what really matters: homeschooling your kids without losing your mind.
Finding Joy in the Chaos
Homeschooling isn’t about perfection. It’s about showing up, trying your best, and finding the joy in everyday moments. Like the time your child finally understands fractions (after 15 tries) or the day you manage to squeeze in a full school session and make dinner without burning it.
So, here’s to the new homeschool year. To the chaos, the coffee, and the countless hats we wear. To the glitter explosions, the deep-dives into long division, and the moments that make it all worthwhile.
And if you need help with registration—or just want to chat about homeschooling life—I’m here for you. Together, we’ve got this.
Cheers to a fabulous year ahead!
